Travel to Antananarivo Province – Cradle of Malagasy History
Antananarivo is the capital and largest city in Madagascar. It is also known by its French name Tananarive or the colonial shorthand form Tana. The city is situated in the centre of the island length-wise, and 145 kilometres away from the eastern coast. It occupies a commanding position, as it was built on the summit and slopes of a long and narrow rocky ridge.
The city is located in the central highlands, and is the centre of cultural, ecnomic, and political life. The city, built up the sides of two hills, is suprisingly beautiful with its typical charming small red houses plastered with clay. Being the cradle of Malagasy history, the place abounds in interesting remains of a glorious past.
