Travel to Antsirabe – Thermal Retreat Centre
Founded by a Norwegian missionary to serve as a retreat centre because of the climate, Antsirabe is the third largest city in Madagascar.
The name of the city translates into “the place of much salt”.
Highlights of the area include a visit to the warm springs and a thermal bath, which was particularly famous in the 19th century, and Andraikiba and Tritriva lakes.
Parc de l’Est, the Arboretum up the hill of Ivohitra, and the traditional and historical tombs in Betafo are also worth a visit while in Antsirabe. There is a gem-cutting workshop at Joseph’s.
