Ramparts of Fez al Bali

Probably the most pleasant way to discover this very secret town. The 15 km tour of the ramparts, by car or motorcycle, is indispensable. To soak in the atmosphere of the nearby medina, do it twice: very early in the morning in the light that rises behind the hills and at dusk. The ramparts which are still standing today, were built by the Almohad El Nasir in the early thirteenth century: they include fourteen gates. Several sites offer superb views over the long ochre coloured walls, topped by minarets: the Borj Sud and its splendid panorama over the medina, the Merinid tomb overlooking Fez-el-Bali and the Borj Nord esplanade of the arms museum.
