Sidi Med Ben Abdallah Museum
At the heart of the Essaouira medina, the Museum of Regional Arts is established in the former home of the pasha. It is named after the sultan who reigned over Morocco during the second half of the eighteenth century.
On the ground floor, music is on display. Of the many pieces presented, there are guembris, stringed instruments, finely decorated with inlaid work, played by gnawa musicians. Regional arts occupy the upper floor with rugs, jewellery, weapons and costumes. The most surprising objects are perhaps the reproductions of henna body drawings applied on festive occasions.
