Mohammed V Mausoleum
Close to the Hassan Tower, but separated by many centuries, stands the Mohammed V Mausoleum, the construction of which began in 1962. The Mausoleum of Mohammed V contains the tombs of the Moroccan king and his two sons, late King Hassan II and Prince Abdallah. The sultan led Morocco to independence and the country built a sumptuous monument to him to express its gratitude. No less than 400 craftsmen were employed in the building of this splendid edifice. The exterior comprises a magnificent white 4 marble pavilion surmounted by a roof of green tiles.Inside, the exquisitely crafted burial chamber contains the white onyx tomb which stands on a slab of granite that is so highly polished, it is like a mirror.
