The Forbes Museum
The Mendoub occupied the position of Sultan’s representative in Tangier. His palace, the Mendoubia, constructed in 1929, was bought in 1970 by the American millionaire Malcolm Forbes. As the new owner, the founder of the magazine ‘Fortune’ chose to surround the building with magnificent gardens.
Malcolm Forbes was passionate about collections, and brought together an impressive army of lead soldiers in his Tangier palace. No less than 120,000 figurines – to evoke the great battles of history, from Waterloo to Dien Ben Phu. The use of amazing slide shows renders the reconstitutions more realistic. Bequeathed to the city of Tangier on the millionaire’s death in 1990, the Musée Forbes bears witness to a childhood passion that stayed the course.
