Travel to Gambia’s Atlantic Coast – The Land of Golden Beaches

Just a few kilometres north-west of Serekunda, Gambia’s splendid Atlantic coast offers its visitors impressive sand cliffs and miles of unspoiled palm-fringed beaches, besides many luxury resorts with an array of nice restaurants, bars and local markets.

The Atlantic coast to the south of Banjul has some of the best beaches in all of Africa with a wide choice of hotels in the Banjul, Kombo and St Mary area.

Gambia’s Atlantic Coast with its resorts of Bakau, Fajara, Kotu and Kololi, make up the heart of Gambia’s tourist industry. Along this 10 kilometre stretch of beach lie some twenty-plus hotels, offering all the touristy trimmings of water sports rentals, a golf course and beaches ideal for swimming and sunbathing.

Visitors to Gambia’s Atlantic Coast are spoilt for choice for coastal resorts. Among them is the northernmost resort of Bakau that boasts a botanical garden – a shady place good for bird-spotting. Bakau’s other focal point is the Kachikaly Crocodile Pool, a sacred site for the local people to pray.

At the southern end of the coastal strip at Kololi, a small wildlife reserve, travellers can visit the Bijolo Forest Park, where they will have a fair chance of seeing monkeys and numerous species of birds. Also, travellers can visit Banjul, the capital, and Serekunda.
