Pont Faidherbe

Designed by Gustave Eiffel, the Pont Faidherbe was originally built to cross the Danube. Transferred to Africa in 1897, this marvellous bridge links Senegal’s mainland to St. Louis island.

It is an impressive piece of 19th-century engineering, spanning a total of 507 metres. The noise of traffic crossing the bridge is distinctive as transport rattles over the original structure. The centre of the bridge was designed to rotate to allow ships passage to the Senegal River.
