Day 1 – Arrive Lilongwe
Arrive in Lilongwe and we collect you from the airport and transfer you to a lodge in town. Overnight with breakfast.
Day 2 – Lilongwe to Vwaza Marsh
Depart Lilongwe after breakfast and head Northwards along the M1 via Kasungu, Viphya Plateau, Mzuzu to Vwaza Marsh. On arrival check into rustic chalets and the afternoon is spent on a short walk along Lake Kazuni’s shoreline. Excellent bird life and hippo sightings are guaranteed. Overnight Kazuni Camp with all meals.
Day 3 – Vwaza Marsh to Nyika National Park
After a light snack we go on a 3 hour game walk, returning for a superb early lunch. Following this we pack up and continue to Nyika National Park. From the entrance of Nyika, we drive for 3 hours through the reserve to Chelinda Camp. Game sightings are frequent along this route especially as you reach the higher plateau. Overnight Chelinda Camp in self-contained chalets overlooking the dam. All camp meals provided.
Day 4 – Game viewing in Nyika National Park
Morning game drive and walk is offered returning to the chalets for lunch. In the afternoon a drive or game walk is on offer. Return to the chalet for dinner. Overnight Chelinda Camp chalets. All meals provided.
Day 5 – Nyika to Makuzi Beach on Lake Malawi
A leisurely breakfast, then depart back to Mzuzu and continue down into the rift valley to Chintheche and Lake Malawi. Drive through the rubber plantations and arrival time at Makuzi Beach is early afternoon. The rest of the day is spent exploring this beautiful part of the coast – walking, meeting villages or simply relaxing on the pure white sands of Lake Malawi. Overnight Makuzi Beach Lodge with dinner and breakfast.
Day 6 – At Leisure at Makuzi Beach Lodge
A day at leisure on the beach and surrounding area. Optional boat trip to a nearby Island. Of interest nearby is Old Bandawe which was the temporary home of the Livingstonia Mission as the early missionaries were searching for a suitable site. Overnight Makuzi Beach Lodge with breakfast.
Day 7 – Makuzi Beach to Mua Mission
Continue along the lakeshore southwards and stop at Mua Mission, Malawi’s cultural epicentre. Here you will stay in chalets overlooking a river. In the afternoon you can explore the area and visit the unique wood carving facility the mission is famous for. Overnight Mua Mission with dinner and breakfast.
Day 8 – Mua to Zomba Plateau
After breakfast, continue southwards to Zomba. After visiting Zomba market we drive up the plateau to Ku Chawe Inn. After check in we do a forest walk. Overnight in the comfortable Ku Chawe Inn with dinner and breakfast.
Day 9 – Walks on Zomba Plateau
Early morning walk up to the peak (3 hours) from where the vehicle collects you to continue with a tour of the Zomba Plateau visiting various viewpoints and areas of interest. Return to the hotel for lunch. Afternoon at leisure or another walk. Overnight Ku Chawe Inn with dinner and breakfast.
Day 10 – Zomba to Dedza
Morning at leisure then depart to Lilongwe. Our route takes us up the main road toward Lilongwe and we stop at Dedza. Here the pottery workshop has built delightful chalets in their grounds and clients are welcome to try their hand at making pots and seeing the process at work. If time allows, a sunset trip up the nearby mountain affords stunning views into Mozambique. Overnight lodge with dinner and breakfast.
Day 11 – Dedza to South Luangwa National Park (Zambia)
Breakfast then to Lilongwe to join a scheduled Luangwa Valley safari which departs Lilongwe at 0900 AM. Continue to Lilongwe border at Mchinji (1.5 to 2 hour drive). Here we complete immigration formalities and continue to Mwami (the Zambian border). From the border it is a short drive to Chipata – Zambia’s capital of the Eastern Province. Next we proceed on a dirt road to the Luangwa Valley – Mfuwe sector. A picnic lunch is enjoyed en route and we arrive at Thornicroft Lodge mid-afternoon. On arrival we check into our chalets followed by tea and coffee. A gentle walk along the Luangwa River is available for those that wish. Overnight Thornicroft Lodge on full board basis.
Days 12 & 13 – Game viewing in South Luangwa National Park
Tea, coffee and a light snack follow an early morning wake up call. Our aim is to be on our first game drive by 0615 AM. All game drives are undertaken in specially-modified safari vehicles. Drinks and snacks are taken along for your enjoyment whilst in the park. Depending on game sightings we return to the lodge at 1100 AM for a scrumptious “brunch”. After an afternoon rest we again head out for our afternoon / night drive at around 1600 PM, returning to the lodge at 2000 PM. Full board basis.
Day 14 – Drive to Lilongwe
After a more leisurely start to the morning and a full breakfast we pack up and depart back to Lilongwe at 0900 AM. A picnic lunch is eaten en route with an arrival in Lilongwe at approx. 1500 PM. Your last evening is spent at Korean Garden Lodge or similar on a bed and breakfast basis. Tonight there is a choice of restaurants for you to choose from.
Day 15 – Transfer to Lilongwe airport
After breakfast we transfer you to the airport where your safari ends.
