If  you are entering Tunisa by car you should be in posession of the vehicles log book, full driving licence and Insurance.

Transport in Zimbabwe

Buses

Zimbabwe has a good network of inter-city buses. Public transport is currently unreliable and you should avoid travelling on it. Buses (mainly privately run minibuses) are overcrowded, inadequately maintained, frequently not insured, and the drivers often reckless.

Taxis

Metered taxis are available in all main centres.

Car Hire

Car hire is available in most tourist areas. A valid driving licence from the visitors home country is required.

Driving

Driving in Zimbabwe is on the left hand side of the road. There is an excellent road network throughtout the country and all main tourist areas are linked by good tarred roads. Due to current fuel shortages, think carefully before setting out on long distance journeys and keep your tank topped up as much as possible.

There are an increasing number of large and deep potholes in the roads which can be dangerous. You should avoid driving outside the main towns at night as vehicles are often poorly lit and roads badly marked. Abandoned unlit trailers and heavy goods vehicles are particularly dangerous hazards. Cyclists without lights, pedestrians and stray livestock are additional dangers. Emergency services can provide only limited help in the event of an accident.

You must obey police signals, stop at roadblocks and produce identification if asked to do so. It is an offence to continue driving when the President’s motorcade goes past, no matter which side of the road you are on. If you see the motorcade you should pull off the road, or onto the side of the road if this is not possible.

Trains

The National Railways of Zimbabwe visits the main centres of the country with an overnight service between Bulawayo and Victoria Falls. The rail system is, however, underdeveloped and very poorly maintained, resulting in numerous accidents. Rail travel is a dangerous option.

Boats

As a land-locked country Zimbabwe does not have extensive travel options by boat, though canoeing on the Zambezi is a popular activity, as is cruising the waters of Lake Kariba by houseboat.

Other

Bike hire is available in many locations in Zimbabwe.
